Bishop Mugendi Secondary School

We are 10 teachers and 125 students in the age of 16-24. A high number of our students are in the boarding school, many of those are orphans by HIV/aids-cases and therefore deeply depending on scholarships.
Besides the standard academic subjects, we teach the children in “life coping skills”, agriculture and business to show the young people another way of living than fishing.
We welcome any kind of projects who can improve or develop our school and the local community, as our Health Care Center, our “Monica”-project, where we teach widows and elder women in farming, so they manage to secure part of their living by themselves and our “Guidance and Counselling” apartment for our students.
Once a year we have our “parents’ day” which is meant to increase the parents’ sense of involvement and co-responsibility for their child in our school.

  • How to get here? The school is located in Roo. A little peaceful city by the Lake Victoria.
Roo is situated 1,5 our by boat from Ramba on the Mfangano Island and 2 ours from Orore by car.
  • From Nairobi to Roo by car: 402 km (approx. 9 ours)
  • From Kisumu to Roo by car: 176 km (approx. 3 ours)
  • From Nairobi to Kisumu by plane: sheduled fligh daily from Nairobi (approx. 45 min)
